Our Beginning - Founder

Mildred Namusisi is the founder and creative visionary behind AZWILE ; a brand inspired not only by the diversity of the African landscapes and richness of her soils but also by traditional wellness rituals passed down through generations. Born and raised in Uganda by an environmentalist father and a mother in the medical field, She has always been fascinated by nature and passionate about her heritage. Mildred watched her mother make healing salves for different ailments. It did not matter what it was, there was always a natural remedy that she would mix to relieve any pain and discomfort. Her younger sister struggled with eczema all her life and it was only natural remedies that would calm her flares. As a teenager with all the hormonal changes that affected her skin, Mildred learned how to mix herbs and natural remedies to combat them. She went on to help her friends that had the same struggles all through high school and into college. As she learned from her mother and continued to explore the healing properties of mother natur e all through her young adult life, Mildred became the go to person amidst her friend group f or anything skin and hair related .The journey to Azwile has been a lifelong pursuit but it wasn’t until a medical condition she developed four years ago that she found a space to blend the different versions of herself. She struggled with the effects that it had on her body from hair loss to acne lesions and skin darkening until she created a natural remedy for herself to heal and soothe her skin.Today AZWILE is a testament of the many years Mildred sat at the feet of her mother and grandmother learning and the passion she has had for nature and health all her life.
